A Meeting or a Pary... and Recipes

Dear Sunrider Leaders,

A few months ago I had to opportunity of going to Pocatello, Idaho and attending a Sunrider meeting hosted by Business Leader LaRae Oram. She held it in the clubhouse at her condo complex, but it could have just as easily been held in her kitchen/dining room at her home. When I looked at the set up I could tell that this wasn’t going to be a meeting … but a party! LaRae says that every time she hosts one of these parties, her SV really goes up. Here is what she did …

First she put a round kitchen table in the middle of the room with chairs going around the outside of the room. The table was filled with fruit, vegetables, salads, chips, and all sorts of Sunrider products. When all of LaRae’s guests arrived the laughing, eating, demonstrating, and education began. While LaRae talked all the guests were free to get up and sample, eat, and try anything that was on the table. I thought I was there to help with the education, but mostly I laughed and ate. In addition to demonstrating the standard products of NuPlus and VitaShake smoothies, Fortune Delight, Calli, and Fruit & Veggie Rinse, she showed how she uses a lot of Sunrider products in other foods, like dressings and dips that were great additions to our eating pleasure.

The talking part was a mixture of product demonstration, education, personal experience with the products, and how to use the products in a lot of unique ways. Here are some key principles to remember:

  • People will come to events where they have fun. If you are not having a great time at your Sunrider event … you are not doing it right.
  • It is easier to invite people to an event if they know it will be fun, educational, and good food. But do be clear about the purpose of the event so they don’t feel they were told one thing and given another.
  • The more formal class room style sit-down with the expert in front lecturing is not the kind of event you want when introducing new people to our amazing products. A party is a heck of a lot better.
  • Good eating is always a draw. When you involve your down line, make it more of a potluck where everyone brings different foods/Sunrider products to taste and demonstrate so the financial burden does not fall on just one set of shoulders.
  • When you share how you use the Sunrider foods and products … others will go home and try the same thing, so share your personal experiences.

Here are a few of LaRae’s recipes … enjoy!

Poppy Seed Dressing

  • ½ Bermuda Onion
  • 1/3 c. Cider Vinegar
  • ¾ c. Sugar or Xylitol, Honey, or other sweetener of choice. If you use Sunny Dew you will need to add a thickener like a corn starch base.
  • ½ tbsp. Dry Mustard
  • 1 teasp. Salt
  • 1 c. Olive Oil

1-2 tbsp. Poppy Seeds
Blend all the ingredients in a blender. Pour and toss on large salad before serving. Yummy with avocados, strawberries, and nuts added to your salad.

Avocado Dip

This dressing is also used to dip vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery, crackers, etc.

  • 2 Avocados
  • Lemon or Lime juice to taste
  • 1-2 Scoops NuPlus, Plain to taste

Recatta Cheese, add until you reach consistency you want
Mix till smooth. Use as spread or dip. Season to taste with Garlic Salt, Chopped Green Onions, etc.

Wheat Thins

Recently for a SR meeting … excuse me, I mean … a party in Arizona, I needed some crackers. It took a lot of searching to find a reasonably healthy cracker at the grocery store. Ironically, these store bought crackers were the most expensive in the store and had the least ingredients. Here is a great alterative …

  • 1 ¾ c. Whole Wheat Flour (real fine)
  • 1 ½ c. White Flour
  • 1/3 c. Olive Oil emulsified in blender with ¾ tsp. salt and 1 cup of water.

Mix as little as possible. Roll as thin as possible on unoiled cookie sheet. Prick with fork. Sprinkle lightly with onion salt, garlic, or other seasoning to taste. Bake at 350 degrees until crisp and light brown. (30-35 minutes). Crack into smaller shapes when it has cooled or use a pizza cutter before cooking the wheat thin so you can break them into whatever size or shape you desire.

Healthy Fruit Dip

Dip can be put over the fruit or to the side on each plate for personal dipping. LaRae had a large bowl of cut up fruit: grapes, bananas, melons, strawberries, etc. that we put into our bowl and added this dip over the fruit. It was great!

  • Nancy’s Plain or Vanilla Yogurt
  • 1 pkage of Cream Cheese
  • 1-2 Scoops Nuplus

Cream cheese needs to be room temperature. Mix cream cheese, yogurt, and NuPlus together until it reaches desired consistency. Add lemon juice, pureed berries, crushed pineapple, or a spoonful of jam to taste. Add Sunny Dew to sweeten. It's also great as the spread on fruit pizza!

Admittedly after reading the above paragragh … and having never heard of a fruit pizza … I called LaRae and she explained that you take a sugar cookie like dough (she uses Xylitol), roll it out like a pizza and bake it. When it is still warm you add the above dip as a spread and then put the fruit of your choice. Cut it into triangles like a pizza … and you have fruit pizza.

I hope you enjoy your SR parties or food fairs as much as I enjoyed LaRae’s party.

Sincerely,

Paul Jensen
