The Law of Attraction ... A Follow Up

[I wrote the following email after my horse accident in May 2007 where I broke my back, femur, and ribs. This was a response to an email I received after the accident.]

Dear Sunrider Business Leader,

It is wonderful to be alive and I'd like to give you an update on my circumstances. First, let me thank the hundreds of Sunrider friends who took the time to write by email and cards to wish me well. Your thoughts and prayers are certainly appreciated and have done much in helping with my recovery.

I was able to be released from the hospital a week ago Saturday due to my rapid recovery. Recovery is coming along faster than expected and the surgeon, after pointing out that most who break their back like mine end up in a wheelchair, indicated that I should recover sufficient to lead a normal life; however, he did indicate it would be a long time for my back to make a complete recovery. So I will be limited in what I can do up to that point. I really do look forward to our continued association in building our Sunrider organizations.

One of the email messages I received asked the question ...

How does an accident like this fit into the law of attraction?

I thought this is a good question in light of the fact that I believe in the law of attraction and the accident did happen. So here is how I look at it.

The Law of Attraction

Too often the law of attraction is presented only as a secret for attaining success in material acquisitions (home, cars, clothes, travel, etc) and in finding that perfect someone in your life.  However, I believe the Law of Attraction should also be used to bring more important things into our lives such as wisdom, courage, character, loyalty, spiritual depth or the type of things that make us better human beings. This revelation hit me hard when I'd assembled all my pictures for my visualization board and guess what ... it was all material things I wanted ... airplane, ranch ... and I was embarrassed. I've already obtained more possessions than I can reasonably take care of, and it occurred to me that the law of attraction should be used as much for personal development and improvement as it is for obtaining material things. And in light of my latest experience, I'd say it is far more important.

My personal experience is that rarely will personal development come without a healthy dose of challenges, suffering, and set backs. Some look at these as negatives. I look at them as part of the landscape of success.

For example, since I was a young man I knew I would be a millionaire. I visualized it, set goals for it, and did what it took to bring it about ... and found myself at the age of 28 with my clothing businesses going broke, my home in foreclosure, and broke. Some attraction I had going on ...

And here is where I learned a great lesson. Essentially, I was in the wrong place, doing the wrong thing to be a millionaire. While the Law of Attraction was still moving me toward becoming a millionaire, it had to move me out of my present situation and into a new situation so that when the millionaire opportunity came along, I'd be ready to grab it. This realignment process was brutal and miserable. Going broke is never fun. Losing your home to foreclosure is never fun ... but in this case it was necessary.

Am I glad it happened? Absolutely. It set us up to get into Sunrider, become millionaires, and to find a home and 5 acres that has been perfect for raising our family.

Did the Law of Attraction work? Yes it did. Was this attraction process always fun, positive, and successful? No. The process of attracting what you want will involve both sides of the fence. What are both sides of the fence?

The Law of Opposition

Another law that is just as powerful as the law of attraction is the law of opposites. You may have heard about it as yin/yang or under many other names. Basically, you cannot have light without darkness, you cannot have cold without hot, you cannot have success without failure, you cannot have happiness without misery or suffering.

Those who are afraid of what many consider the "negatives" of life ... failure, suffering, and misery ... according to this law take themselves out of the running to experience success, happiness, and getting what you want.

My Accident

I have felt for some time that I needed to make some changes in my life's focus. I believe this accident is nothing more than another realignment process, giving me a chance to reconsider priorities, perhaps shift what I want to attract into my life. I personally am excited to see where it leads. Part of that future will always be working with you good people in Sunrider. Part will be keeping positive about my recovery and the limitations it has imposed upon me. The most exciting part is seeing where it leads me. My experience is that each time I have a dramatic experience in my life like this, it brings something far greater with it.

I hope this will help the IBO who asked the question to understand a little more the relationship between accidents, tragedies, and the law of attraction. It is amazing how lying on the bottom of a river with a horse on top of you gives you a chance to really clarify life's priorities. By the way, I would not recommend it ... just take my word for it.

To boil this all down, as you attract things into your life, don't just focus on material things, and don't expect that the road you take to end up with what you are attracting will only be paved with joy, happiness, and success. If it was, it wouldn't be worth the trip. Keep this in mind as you continue to build your Sunrider business.

Sincerely,

Paul Jensen

Today's Action
  1. Look over your dream board or whatever you are using to keep your vision clearly in focus, ask yourself if it is balanced? Are there other things you need to add to your vision to make sure your arrival is a well balanced life?
  2. Call one of your newer IBO's and tell them why you are so excited about Sunrider, and help them share Sunrider with someone.
