If
you could change one aspect of your life,
what
would it be?
|
Dear Sunrider
Business Leader,
Often we get the opportunity to ask people about one aspect of their lives
they would like to change. The responses to this question have been quite
interesting. They have ranged from the blunt answer of a scientist who
firmly proclaimed, "It's none of your business!" to the
bland response of, "Oh, more money." (But they have no idea
of what they would do with it.)
Probably the scariest and saddest are those who sigh and respond, "I
don't know." It's sad because they have lost the desire or
ability to dream of greater things in life. It's scary because having
a dream or vision of something is the fundamental motivation in life!
And if you don't have a dream or catch a vision, you will not work
towards that dream and a better life.
Historically, it's amazing how many great men and women attribute
their success and consistent dedication to a single, brief instant ...
when they realized that they can achieve their dreams, or they catch a
vision of what they are destined to accomplish. From that moment on, they
did not necessarily need goals, planners, lists, seminars, or mentors.
For the dream or vision drove them to success. And while they may on occasion
be sidetracked, they could not ignore or forget what they knew must be
done.
Now ask yourself the question, "If I could change one aspect
of my life, what would it be?" If your mind draws a blank, ask
yourself if you have any problems you need to solve, or needs or wants
you wish to acquire. If so, this is where you start, with your problems,
needs and wants. Then as you are successful in this area, let your mind
begin filling up with dreams of what you would like or situations you
would like to improve. They are there; you just need to draw them out.
Once a young lady was asked this question and she answered, "Nothing.
I'm happy."
She was asked, "Oh, really? You don't want a new home, car, travel
or something else?" She was adamant ... "nothing!"
But then as she listened to the presentation, she began to pour out her
real dreams. She really wanted to change almost everything in her life
... except her new car. It was interesting that everything she wanted
to change pretty much boiled down to two major issues: having better health
and having the income to enjoy it.
This seems to be true with most people. All their dreams, problems, needs
or wants can be solved with better health or more income. This is what
Sunrider is all about: creating better health and a larger income.
The Power of a Dream
Let me share a story that explains the real power of a dream. Some years
ago in the dead of winter every morning I would hear our front door
slam at 5:30 AM. It was my then thirteen-year-old son, Stephen, going
out to feed the cows. Now, it was somewhat unusual for me to be awakened
so early each morning by my young son. But you see, Stephen wanted to
be a sponsored skeet shooter with Remington Arms Company and the way he
chose to finance this activity was by raising calves and selling them.
One morning while my wife Cheryl and I were out walking, I asked Cheryl
if she ever had to remind Stephen to feed the calves. She said no. Then
I asked her if she ever had to remind Stephen to practice the piano. She
responded that it was a daily activity.
I asked Cheryl if she knew why. She didn't. So I said, "Playing
the piano is your dream, and feeding the calves is Stephen's dream."
The fact that you are reading this indicates that you have a dream ...
a dream that is strong enough to motivate you to do something about it.
And if that dream is strong enough so that, like Stephen, you are willing
to do what others are not, there is no limit to where it will take you!
It is a sad fact that many people, who pursue their dreams, do so in ways
that eventually guarantee failure because they may be unproven or based
on false principles.
You now have the opportunity to learn of a system that has been successful
in fulfilling the dreams of thousands of people. You will learn principles
behind the system that have proven to be correct. You can rely on these
principles in making your decisions. You will learn about the techniques
and tools necessary to work the system. It's all here and waiting
for you!
What is your dream?
Now, ask yourself these questions. Make sure the answers are influenced
by your dreams and not by your past or people who believe you can't
do it. If money and/or health were not an issue...
- what would you want to do
with your free time?
- where would you ultimately
enjoy living?
- what kind of a home and environment
would you most enjoy?
- what kind of car would you
most enjoy driving?
- where would you like to travel?
- in what ways would you like
to spend your time helping your family or community?
- what talents would you like
to develop?
- how much money and free time
would it take to do the above?
Sincerely,
Paul Jensen
Create a board with pictures
that will help you define your dreams. Write them down as well. Put the
pictures in your "My Pictures" section on your computer and
select the option to rotate pictures so you can see the pictures constantly
as you work at your desk. Set it so the pictures start after the computer
has been idle for 5 minutes or whatever length of time you want.
